You ever have one of those, "Hey, what's been goin' on with..." moments? For no particular reason, I tracked down the website of Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion this morning. It's been a long while since I'd heard anything from the duo. Johnny released a great solo record Ex Tempore back in 2007, but I hadn't heard much since then.
So imagine my happy surprise to find that they have a new live CD/DVD set available called Folksong, which also features four new tracks. Very cool item from a very cool act. It's a shame that their record deal with New West (apparently) petered out after only one album (2005's excellent Exploration). I also wish they'd make it down to Texas a little more often.
Anyway, you can - and should - pick up this new release over at their online shop. Ex Tempore and other recent titles are also available over there, and I think I'll be dusting those albums off this weekend.
UDPATE: I got this in the mail yesterday (quick!). Man, what a nice package. The DVD is extremely lovely, shot by none other than Mr. Henry Diltz. The companion CD is, naturally, very nice as well. Johnny is quite a picker - he and Sarah Lee give off quite a Gillian Welch/David Rawlings vibe these days (but not quite as dark and haunting). Highly, highly recommended.
