I'm not gonna pretend that the music of Michael Jackson means to me now what it did in my youth. But, wow - the biggest cultural icon of my adolescence is dead. Thriller was the first album I bought.

Okay, now you're making me feel old. That was the 80s, for God's sake. "Boston" was the first album I bought for myself.
(I choose to ignore the unfortunate incident a couple months before that where I asked my parents for a album for my bithday, they got me a Rolling Stones (High Tides and Green Grass) album, and I promptly returned to the store and exchanged it for the Bay City Rollers album that I had wanted.)
